Today, the NCAA college basketball tournament begins. For those of you who don't live in the US, the NCAA tournament is one of the premier sporting events in the US. Like the Superbowl in NFL football, even non-sports fans usually are interested in this tournament. There are 64 college basketball teams seeded 1 through 16 in four regions.

The teams play each other in a single-elimination tournament. The first round is today and tomorrow, followed by the second round this weekend, reducing the field to 16. Next Thursday through Sunday, there are two more round, reducing the field to the "Final Four". The Final Four is a huge event, two Saturdays from now, reducing the field to two teams who will then compete for the National Championship.

One of the most exciting parts of "March Madness" is when smaller universities that aren't well known for basketball upset a powerful team. Two years ago, little-known George Mason University (seeded 11th) upset national powerhouses North Carolina and Connecticut to reach the final four. It was the first time in decades that a team seeded so low had made it so far in the tournament.

Anyway, that's basically how it all works. It's my favorite sporting event of the year, and it starts in just a few hours. Here are my selections for today's games:
